Masamune Kun’s Revenge (Review/Podcast)

NOTE: I will be rewriting this entire article later at the end of the weekend. It’s just gonna be a really busy one for me and I wanted to throw up the podcast.

I have to say I truly did struggle to finish this one.  Now that is not to say that this was a terrible show it was just filled with so much filler and useless stuff that the entire season could have been completed in about 4 episodes without the fillers.  The anime follows Masamune Makabe doing a plan of revenge on this girl named Aki Adagaki. She once dumped the guy, and she gave him a cruel nickname. The tables have turned though because Masamune now plans on having Adagaki fall for him and then reject her outright. It’ll crush her completely, and revenge will be sweet. Of course, plans don’t always happen the way you intend them to and Masamune just doesn’t quite realize that yet.

this show has a very basic premise, a guy gets dumped when he was younger, a guy gets hot, a guy wants to take revenge on the girl that broke his heart all those years ago.  We meet our main character who is an overly health-conscious person (Obviously you have to be when you don’t want to get fat) and you quickly learn that he is that way because back when he was younger he was a little fatty.  He decides to get fit because a girl that he was in love with turned him down and gave him a cruel nickname, upon this happening he swears to get fit and one day get his revenge by making her fall in love with him and asking him out all so he can reject her and make her see what it feels like to get dumped. is always on the defense She wants to be cuddled and romanced, but she won’t really say it outright. She says one thing one minute and then says the opposite another minute.

She has simple motives and desires, but she’s too stubborn to admit it herself. She’s a voracious eater, but she won’t show it to just anybody. It seems to be an all too familiar case where there is a girl who may actually have feelings for someone but she is too afraid to actually show them, you will come to see this throughout the show as every time Masamune gets a chance to kiss her, whether she asked for it or he did and she said it would be ok she socks him right in the jaw. We do have another character that comes into play and sort of plays both sides of the fence and that is Yoshino, she is Akis helper but also remembers Masamune from when they were young. Throughout the season she will help Masamune out by getting Aki to fall for him all the while still acting like she is on Akis side.

The fourth character of importance that we meet is Nisekoi or (Neko) and she completely comes in and saves the show, because up until she made her appearance in the show it was very bland and was becoming more difficult for me to stay invested in the story. When Neko comes into the story you get cliffhangers at the end of the episodes and a little more broadness in the story because now it’s not just Masamune trying to get a girl to like him so he can get his revenge, you have him trying to figure out who this girl is and it leaves you as the viewer wondering the same thing.

Overall I thought this show was bland having only about 4 episodes that healed great importance and the rest just being fillers. That’s not to say it was terrible I just think it could have been written a little better Having a character come in mid-season and outshine your main character shows that they had the ability to write so many more twists and turns into this and they just chose not to. Like we said in the podcast this season would have been better off ending after the hospital scene rather than going into the 3 back-end episodes. They were so pointless You can hear all about it in the podcast linked in this post or on Spotify, just search for Animag.

I rated it a 5 and Thomas rated it a 6 so I guess its true rating would be a 5.5 but here on the site, it will get a 6. as we don’t do half scores. As always check it out for yourself as you may prefer it over my opinion this podcast and article are solely based on my and Thomacus opinions and what we like in anime shows.

I think asylum has been recording for a new show. Perhaps that has something to do with it.
